In an ideal world, one's work would speak for itself. I am a determined, and largely self-taught, artist with a strong sense of purpose and passion. Many pieces go to the recycling bin with more and more being deemed good enough to display and to offer for sale.
What makes good art and what defines truly great art, I do not know. My own self-criticism is intense and this drives me to find ways to improve myself and my work. Watercolor seems to be the medium that I turn to most often - but egg tempera is also something I am passionate about and love working in despite the involved preparation of panels, paints, etc.
I admire many artists, but most of all Andrew Wyeth. I also like Vermeer, Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt, Monet, Van Gogh, John Bratby, English Watercolorists, Hudson Valley school and so many more. I would love to have the honor to meet Mr. Andrew Wyeth someday as I consider him to be our greatest living artist - he gives such tenderness and compassion to his subjects.
Art is not art if it isn't driven by a passion and verve.
