A native of Detroit, Michigan, I have been living and working in San Francisco for over 20 years. My early work and art school training was in the media of oil painting,, but soon after school, I began a photo career. The subject matter of my paintings continued in my photographs. I had a fascination with urban life, both in detail and wide cityscape. Although my work now includes a wide variety of subject material, this early interest in urban scenes is still expanding in many return trips to Detroit and the Mission area of San Francisco. I am very drawn to the signs of days past, the fading history and crumbling remains which provide rich compositions through color and texture. I have also always been drawn to the incredible delicacy and natural beauty of flowers. I often renew my collection of images, usually through a macro lens, then printing the photos large, in black and white or color. Most recently, based on a camping trip, I have begun a series of more traditional landscapes and abstract images in nature. I am leaning more towards black and white these days, but who know where it will go. Although earlier work was shot using traditional film stocks, all recent work is digital and prints are archival. Photos are shipped with museum quality white mats.
