Children's Art Instruction

Lis-trations Art Instruction is designed for kids ages 5 and up, where creative learning and fun are emphasized in a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. I follow the age old method of master artists providing personalized one on one tutoring, where quality of teaching in private and small group settings is far greater than large group instruction.

I offer lessons appropriate for absolute beginners, who are introduced to the fundamentals of drawing and also for students with some drawing experience. As the student’s abilities improve, lessons evolve to challenge and meet their capabilities.

Lessons are available in half hour segments for children between 5-6 years old, as well as one hour allotments for the older or more advanced student. Tutorials are available as Ongoing or in 12 week intervals, or “semesters”.

Ongoing Lessons allow for greater artistic self expression, and are ideal for students who wish to spend unlimited time on projects and creativity without time restrictions or project “deadlines”.

Lessons available as 12 week intervals, or “semesters”, represent one of four different Levels of Art Tuition available for advancement, from Level 1 Preliminary Art to Level 4 Advanced Art. Each Level is designed to challenge the student’s abilities progressively. Advancement to the next various levels of Art is optional. These programs are designed to benefit the student’s creative zeal as well as your budget.

We do a lot of drawing, and students are introduced to a number of exciting mediums which they use on various creative projects. I always encourage each student to work at their own pace and have a fun incentive program where students are rewarded for doing work on their own time, and increases when students work extra hard. Whenever they have assignments, I also do my own with them.

Students are introduced to aspects of cartooning and animation, as well as a variety of drawing methods and General Art/Illustrative processes including observation of still life, photographs and art reproductions. Attention will be given to traditional formal issues such as line, shape, positive and negative space, volume, composition, perspective, proportion, and color work as well as depicting action, emotion and movement in drawing. Individualized instruction and At Home Projects encourages each student to find a personal approach to artistic expression. I believe exposure to a wide variety of art techniques can only better enhance a student’s understanding of art in general and their ability to find their personal artistic “voice”.

If you prefer, lessons may be customized to your needs. A lesson plan and program will be designed for you based on your goals and abilities.

Tuition is $35 per hour per student or $20.00 per half hour per student, at a minimum of one lesson per week. For 12 one hour lessons for 3 months, tuition is $420.00, and $240.00 for 12 half hour lessons for 3 months. Tuition for Customized Lesson Plans is $40 per hour or $480.00 for 12 one hour lessons for 3 months.

Lessons are taught from my studio and home in Vail and you are welcome to stay for the duration and sit in the living room and read, use your lap top or simply relax.

On rare occasions I make the exception of providing art instruction away from my studio and an additional charge per lesson for a Home Visit Privilege will be calculated with the regular lesson fee. My standard Home Visit Privilege fee for anywhere within a half hour distance of my studio in Vail is $15.00. My Home Visit Privilege fee ranges up to $35.00 per lesson and payment is required upfront.

Payments are to be made prior to each lesson and I will accept payment in full upfront or month to month. Family discounts are available for 2 or more children: $5 off second child, $10 off third child. If you have any questions regarding payment arrangements, I will be more than happy to talk to you about it.

Tuition fee does not include cost of materials. I will provide you with a basic list of supplies that you can purchase at any good art store (eg. Michaels, Aaron Brothers). I am also working on distributing art materials through my business, so students and parents will be able to purchase basic but quality supplies through me, all of which will be applicable to student art lessons.

Upon reaching the end a semester, or every three months, I track each student's progress, and each student will receive a Certificate of Completion with the option to advance to the following Art level, or a Certificate of Progressive Merit, representing their creative excellence.

My schedule is flexible and I am available on week days between 9:30am - 4pm as well as Saturdays. I do not teach on Sundays. Just let me know which days work best for you and I can plan around your schedule.

Essentially, my aim is not so much to be an art teacher, but rather a creative mentor to each of my students. I serve as their guide, and believe the student is the real teacher under proper guidance. It is my philosophy that real learning only develops and takes place when the student decides to be teachable on their own. Teach correct principles and let the student govern themselves by them.
