Updates! 11/11/08

I have several updates!

This Saturday, Nov 15th, I'm in a group show at The Defoor Centre called "Off the Wall." Opening reception is from 7:30-9:30pm. The space is super easy to get to: from 75, exit at Howell Mill and head west a couple of blocks, take a right at Defoor (a Waffle House will be on your right), and The Defoor Centre is just down a couple of blocks on your left. The space is very nice and this show will be packed with works from local artists. I hope to see you there!

As you can see from my "exhibits" page, this is the last art show I have on the calendar. Who knows what the future holds for me, but at this point I'm taking a break from exhibiting in galleries. This is due to a few reasons, but for those who know me, it should come as no surprise to hear that I feel like it's time to shake things up and try a different approach. New ideas are in the works, so please stay tuned. I may get out on the local festival circuit, kick up my ventures in the world of online art selling, and I'm also open to having my work hang in more local businesses. One thing is for sure: new art will be born & I'll be getting it out there in new and fun ways.

So, with that said, it would be nice to see old faces and meet new ones at this weekend's opening!

A friend of mine & amazing artist, Jenny Birdsong, has an art opening this weekend as well. She's in a group show called "Small & Cheap" at Art Space International on Friday Nov 14th from 7-10pm. 1192 Huff Road, Atlanta. Come out and support Jenny, she rocks!

Also this weekend I will be picking up my work from the Neighborhood Gallery (opening was on 10.4.08). What does that mean to you? MORE available art for sale on the website! Gretchen ~ the piece you had your eye on is still available. And one I will be pulling one because I've decided to keep it for myself ("Little Wing")... well, not for myself exactly, but keep reading and you'll figure out who it's for.  I will be keeping the prices that I picked for the gallery, so everything will remain inexpensive and oh so hot and original. Ya'll will have time to get your choices ordered before Thanksgiving and they will arrive in plenty of time for the holidays. Expect to see most of the "Heaven, Hell, & the Color Grey" collection moved over to the "available art" section on Sunday.

And, I've saved the best update for last... I'm going to be a mommy sometime around June 7th 2009! Brian & I are very excited (although surprised to get the news the other month). Knowing that I'll be supporting a child soon has been some serious motivation to create and sell some art.  Trying to build up a savings when starting from nothing is a bit stressful.

I appreciate all of you who visit my site and who enjoy my art. If you think someone else would enjoy my work, please send them a quick email and a link to www.christinaloraineart.com . Thank You to all of you!

xoxo!

It's that time of year again...
It's that time of year again... 10/24/08

If you're like me you're usually scrambling 2 weeks before christmas to think of original gift ideas for everyone on your list ... and wishing you would have started the search before halloween!

Well...
I have some time to put a few extra commissions on my calendar before the holidays hit and would love to hear from you. Rates for a commissioned painting are as low as $80; I base rates on size of the piece and expected time to finish. What a great gift an original piece of art would make!

(The picture is part of a painting that I finished in October 08)

Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening reception!

(I'm wishing this blog would allow more than 1 photo per post! Click on the post title to see all the little pics. I had to put several into one image & it's still showing up super small. boo!)

almost there
almost there 9/24/08

I'm happy to say that I'm almost finished with the collection that I will be showing at the Neighborhood Gallery group show, despite life's attempts at throwing me off track (and wow have there been a lot of those lately!) I'm still working on 3 of the paintings, but I feel good about where I'm at and the fact that I'm not super stressed about the deadline.

The picture is of the piece I'm working on now (still in progress). After this is finished the "heaven" side of my collection will be complete and I can do a quick happy dance around the place before pulling out something dark for the final 2 pieces that I have left to finish.

See ya at the opening ~

About my new collection of work 9/3/08

I've really been in a great creative mood lately! It's been great to work for several hours and feel like the time has flown by.. if not for paint covered hands and a stiff back to prove me wrong. I'm currently working furiously on my collection that will show at Neighborhood Gallery in Atlanta (sorry, it's late and I'm not going to link... see my Exhibits section fomoinfo* on the opening). I'm planning to show 15 pieces and I still have quite a bit of work in front of me. Ah, no worries. I'm feeling pretty good about my timeline at this point. I have a 48x60 inch canvas (BIG!!!) with 2.5" edges that will be my main piece in the collection. The idea for the painting has been sitting in my head for such a long time, but just over the last few days I feel overcome with the urge to paint it. I've been working on my other pieces just to build up the tension of wanting to paint this gigantic canvas that sits in my art room. The monster has been sitting there for over 2 weeks now and I almost get a pain in my side not -doing- something with it.. only working on canvases that look so demure next to her.

The new collection of work will be a look at a lot of the different imagery that is dominate in my portfolio, but will seek to bring it together and show a balance. Balance, especially in this case, meaning merging of the two extremes. I've named the collection:

"heaven, hell, & the color grey"

*fomoinfo: not a typo.
